Dear all,
Summer is heating up at Om Factory! We’re having our first Fire Island yoga retreat from July 11th through the 13th! The weekend promises to be full of fun, sun, yoga, good friends, and good food. More hot news: the infamous Om Factory community party featuring the Japa Kirtan band will return on Sunday, July 20th. Come one, come all. Also, after years of pleading with her, Chris Loesback, has agreed to teach a delicious Vinyasa class on Sunday mornings from 9.30-11am. Chris will also co-teach Jedi Training with Becca Kraus. Our own Susan Holland will teach the new Saturday morning 9.30-11.00am class (not for the faint of heart) and Erica Mather will take on the Saturday 4.00-5.30pm class (not to be missed)!
As we well know, you are the reason Om Factory is flourishing and maturing. With much gratitude for your support, starting this month, we will feature one of our dear supporters in each of our newsletters. First up is Jack Zyman of Berek Sweaters. Jack not only encourages his employees to leave the office to practice yoga, he also treats them to their classes! We are so lucky to see the smiling faces of Jack and his pal Jill Rogers’ every day in the studio (yup, they’re Jack and Jill), along with the other wonderful employees of Berek Sweaters. Take it away Jack…
Much love,
Faramarz |
YOGA'S BACK IN FASHION ON FASHION AVE
Good for the Body, Good for Business
There's a new definition of "Employee Health Plan" at my company and it covers preventative care and maintenance for all of your body, and even includes mental health benefits. The "Provider" is Om Factory, right here in the middle of the garment industry. I used to host yoga classes for friends at my downtown loft, but when I found Om Factory, just a block from my showroom, I started leaving the office for sessions when the stress built up at work. I was immediately impressed with the clean, comfortable space, inviting atmosphere, and warm teachers. They truly treat everybody at every level of ability with the same loving attention and respect.
It all began when my employees noticed me leaving and returning totally relaxed and able to solve even the most stressful situations with a smile. Eventually, some of them asked where I was going. As they did, I'd invite them to come see, sometimes without telling them our destination. Soon word about the Om Factory spread and I decided that anyone who wanted to join could do so … my treat. We often work in a high-pressure atmosphere with tight deadlines and new problems to solve every day. In our warehouse and design studios, we work very closely with each other. You could say that some of us (myself included) can get a bit cranky late in the day. Once several of us started going to Om Factory, much of the everyday stress dissipated. Productivity even increased -- dramatically! The energy level at 5PM is no less than at 10AM in our office and the 3PM double espressos and three-dollar coffees are no longer part of the daily routine for most of us. My people are more positive, miss less work, and have better focus throughout the day. They've reconditioned themselves to listen to their bodies and to pay attention to their diets, and when a rough night out or some bad food choice causes irritability, yoga at Om factory is their new cure. I think every business in the garment district should encourage their employees to visit Om Factory, (especially the ones with cranky people working there).

Chris Loesback
I am on an adventure! My yoga journey began in 1995 and has taken me through fabulous certifications including Sundari Yoga 200hr, Kripalu Restorative, Thai Body Work, and Dharma Mittra Life of a Yogi 500hr teacher training. Finally, AcroYoga called my heart home in 2006. My background also includes a BA in Biology and Theatre from East Stroudsburg University. My most challenging training, however, comes from the moving meditation that is life. I work daily to carry the mindfulness of my practice onto the mat, off of the mat, and into the world. This has empowered me in amazing ways. It is a joy to share this process with anyone who is willing to play. When I am not balanced on top of or flying another AcroYogi, you can usually find my husband Michael (my life love extraordinaire) and me hanging off the edge of a cliff rock climbing. I am an outdoors junkie and I love mangos. I am blessed and truly grateful to be at home with such a spectacularly loving yoga community.
